With your support, we are hoping to shift this culture regarding lates. Starting yesterday we have activated our alert system to update families when students are late to class, in addition to our normal alerts for absent students.
It is important that all students arrive at school and are in class on time. Students often do not allow enough time to get to class. This results in ongoing disruptions for office and classroom staff. Arriving late not only causes your child to miss valuable instruction but also disrupts the learning environment for classmates.
Our first class begins at 8:55. This means that students should be arriving at the school doors no later than 8:50 to make their way to their first class. Late bus students will not be marked as late.
This system has one flaw when alerting lateness. There is no code for excused lates, meaning anyone that has a L in the system will be notified at 3:00 PM. We will continue to ask that the excused late option be added to PowerSchool (PS), so that positive communication can be rewarded with no alert going home to you. PS allows us to enter AWN and MR for absent students so that no alerts go home.
Lateness is also addressed in the provincial attendance policy.
