February 2026 marks the official celebration of African Heritage Month in Nova Scotia. This year is particularly significant as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the national recognition of Black History Month in Canada.
The provincial theme for 2026 is: “Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power and Progress”
This theme highlights the collective power of African Nova Scotians and people of African descent standing together. It honors the 52 historic Black communities in the province and emphasizes the wisdom of elders as “knowledge keepers” who guide the path toward future prosperity.
