Welcome to Semester 2
As the start of the new semester begins, we encourage all students to prioritize a strong start in their Semester 2 classes. This commitment will allow them to continue their success, or in some cases, show efforts to turn things around if needed. This period represents a fresh opportunity for success.
Please pay close attention to the course outlines and communication plans, as these documents contain much important information regarding the new courses.
Please continue to coach your student in the areas of
- Consistent student attendance
- Coming to class on time
- Appropriate and respectful behavior
- School participation in clubs and other activities
- Putting forward their best effort.
Horton office hours
The Horton office is only staffed to answer phones between 8:15 AM and 4:00 PM. We do not have an answering service available. To contact the office outside of these operating hours, please email jodye.routledge@avrce.ca or send a text message to 902-670-8879.

- Feb 2 – Marking Day – no classes
- Feb 3 – Start of semester 2 (If there is a school cancellation on Feb 2, Feb 3 becomes the marking day with Semester 2 starting on Feb 4)
- Feb 14 – Semester 1 reports emailed home
- Feb 16 – No School Heritage Day
- Feb 18 – Gr 9-11 students will lock in their course selections in myblueprint
- Feb 20-22 – Into the Woods Musical
- Feb 25 – 1:22 pm Early Dismissal
- Feb 27-28 – Into the Woods Musical
- Mar 10 – Horton SAC meeting at 6:30 PM
- Mar 16-20 – Spring Break
- Apr 2 – No Class School PD
- Apr 3 – Good Friday
- Apr 6 – Easter Monday
Regular Reminders from Horton:
- Horton High School Late Start Plan (2 hour delay due to weather)
Buses will run 2 hours later than normal. A normal 8:35 pick-up would now be delayed until 10:35.
Bell times for the 2 hour delayed start
Warning bell: 10:55
Period 1: 11:00 – 11:50
Period 2: 11:55 – 12:45
Lunch: 12:45 – 1:32
Period 3: 1:37 – 2:27
Period 4: 2:32 – 3:22
- Bus Notes: Students should have all bus notes and afterschool plans decided before 2 PM (And not during last class)
- Horton’s Positive Behavior expectations: Please review these slides to be introduced to our positive behavior expectations for Horton spaces, classrooms, washrooms, hallways, etc.

We have staff members and students who have a severe allergy to scented products. We are asking that you please make sure that students do not wear scented products to school. If you are visiting our school, please make sure you do not wear scented products.

- School Attendance:
A friendly reminder to please inform us of all absences so they can be recorded as AWN (Absent with Notification) or MR (Medical Reason). If your child misses an assessment and their absence is not recorded as one of these codes in PowerSchool, their teacher will contact you to notify you of the missed assessment.
