Hello Horton High Parents/Guardians and Students,
On Friday, June 14th, from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm School Student Council is hosting the first Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life event at Horton High School.
Relay For Life is a global movement to support cancer research and those affected by the illness. It is active in 29 countries and 6,000 communities worldwide. Relay For Life brings the school community together to celebrate cancer survivors with a Survivors’ Lap and to honour the memory of loved ones with a special Luminary Ceremony.
All participants will be required to have their $20 registration fee paid to be allowed to participate in the activities involved, it is preferred this fee be paid during registration online, but we are having weekly collection days for people who choose to pay in cash. We are also encouraging participants to set a fundraising goal of at least $100 each. All students who wish to participate must be registered by Monday, June 10th, fees will be collected until the day of, if necessary. All participants will have their attendance marked School Activity for the event day, so the absence will not count.
The activities on the day of the event will include bouncy castles, carnival games, theme laps around our soccer field, and a slip and slide. Participants will also be provided with lunch on the event day. There will also be a food truck with food available for purchase. Another part of Relay for Life is honouring those who have passed from cancer. All participants are welcome to decorate a Luminary in honour of a loved one.
