The D1 girls basketball team went 5-0 this weekend and won their 4th tournament in a row in Moncton at the Ladies Hoop Classic.
Day 1 brought 2 gritty wins, 1 against Harrison Trimble where Ali Oluyole was Horton player of the game and against Charlottetown Rural where Lily Walsh was the player of the game. The girls played Saint John high Friday at 1 and came out on top with Vanessa Penny named player of the game. In the second game on Friday, the Griffins fought from behind to come back to beat Riverview High School. Ali Oluyole was Horton player of the game against RHS.
4-0 in round robin, the girls advanced to the final against a talented Fredericton High School team. A great team effort put the Griffins on top, beating FHS 66-50. Rachel Veale was named player of the game for her great defense and sharp shooting.
Ali Oluyole was selected as a second team all-star for the tournament and Lily Walsh was named first team all-star and tournament MVP. The Griffins look to improve their streak with a game vs Parkview this week and their final tournament at North Nova before the Christmas break.
