The Student Services Department at Horton is designed to assist students – individually and in small groups – as well as teachers. It is comprised of two guidance counsellors, and one administrative assistant.
Additional resource people include School Board Programme Advisors, Speech and Hearing Consultants, an Addictions Counsellor and an RCMP Liaison Officer.
The Counselling Centre
The counselling centre is part of student services. Specific services, programs and initiatives are planned and carried out in collaboration with school personnel, parents/guardians, community members and other professionals.
The counselling program operates in four domains related to the personal, social, academic and career development of students. Activities and programs in each domain are designed to develop in students an increased capacity to: (a) understand and appreciate themselves (personal development), (b) relate effectively to others (social development), (c) develop appropriate educational plans (academic development), and develop appropriate career plans (career development).
How do I make an appointment? Appointments are made through Mrs. Langille. If it is during a class, students need to have an appointment slip. Grade 12 students should make their appointments during the free cycle.
Transcripts: Official transcripts are mailed directly to a post-secondary institution. They must be signed and stamped with the school seal.
Scholarships/Awards/Bursaries: Please check the daily announcements and the files in Student Services. Also, the Horton Scholarship Website has plenty of scholarship information.
